This newsletter serves to provide an inside about activities delivered by SANABO over the past three months. The monthly updates were affected by the series of events that happened over this period. The below outlines an account of the activities that could have been communicated during this period.

1. World Men Championships: SANABO had a team of four boxers and two coaches (Sinovuyo Mthintelwa - 51Kg; Amzolele Dyeyi - 57Kg; John Masamba - 63.5Kg; Simnikiwe Bongco - 71Kg and Johannes Britz – Coach and Nkosinathi Hlatshwayo – Coach) that attended the World Men Championships which took place on the 30 April – 14 May 2023 at Uzbekistan (Tashkent). This team joined an independently organized training camp on 17 April 2023, where there were other countries at Sochi in Russia. They then proceeded to the championships, where they exited the competition before the quarter-finals.

2. MOU between South Africa and Russia Boxing Federation: SANABO President had a meeting with Russia Boxing Federation on 17 – 18 May 2023 in Moscow, Russia. A memorandum of Understanding was signed between the two countries in relation to the following arrangements:

2.1 Annual Training Camp – Two training camps will be hosted each year by the respective countries to prepare boxers for major competitions and share resources, skills and knowledge. .

2.2 Coaches – exchange coaches between the two countries and host Russian officials as guests during South African major events. team performed well and returned home with 2 Gold, 1 Silver and 2 Bronze medals and came sixth in the log standing, which is an improvement from last year's results. The winners will be awarded their prize monies once they reflect in the SANABO account. IBA has regulated the distribution of the prize monies in this way: 70% will be directed to the boxers, 20% will remain with the Federation, and 10% will go to the boxer's coaches. and host Russian officials as guests during South African major events.

2.3 Major Events – Russian Federation to assist the South African team whenever preparing for an international competition.

2.4 Capacity Building – have an exchange arrangement that will capacitate boxers, coaches and officials.

3. SANABO Youth and Elite Championships: SANABO hosted the most successful Youth and Elite Championships on 04 – 09 July 2023 at Tzaneen in Polokwane. This wellorganized event was unique in many ways as it was attended by all provinces, hosted in a mall, and streamed live with various sponsors.

4. International Youth Championships: SANABO youth team comprised of three boxers, one coach, and one technical official attended the tournament held on the 17 – 23 July 2023 in Kostanay, Kazakhstan, in memory of Ural & Korgan Aitenor. The boxers brought home one silver and one bronze medal, playing against the top boxing countries in the world.

5. AFBC Championships 2023: SANABO had a delegation of eleven boxers, three coaches, five technical officials and two executive members during the AFBC championships on the 25 July – 06 August 2023 in Yaoundé, Cameroon. The five officials were deployed to attend the Star 2 and 3 Referees and Judges Course. The pool of both Coaches and Technical Officials at the International level.

6. Nelson Mandela Cup: During the AFBC championships held in Cameroon (Yaounde) on 05 August 2023, the continental board of directors and national federations had an AFBC forum, wherein the IBA President (Mr Umar Kremlev) publicly issued an instruction to South Africa to organize the Nelson Mandela Cup from the 09-14 October 2023. The IBA President committed to injecting financial support for the delivery of the competition by providing free accommodation with meals for all participating national teams from the continent, including 500 000 USD purse monies for the medalists. Gold medalists from this cup will form an African team that will later compete against other continents. There will be international training courses for the coaches and technical officials that will occur alongside this competition. Meanwhile, there is a planned Congress on 13 October 2023 wherein all key national federation leaders from the African continent will attend.

7. CADET (School Boys and Girls) And Junior Championships: A correspondence requesting provinces to bid for championships from 2023 to 2025 was emailed to provinces on 07 November 2022. Until now, no province has shown interest or sent its bid to host any of the championships, as mentioned above. Since SANABO is hosting the Continental event, it would be impossible to stage both the Mandela Cup and Junior Championships in the same month of October 2023. During its virtual meeting on Thursday, 10 August 2023, the SANABO NEC resolved to move the championships to December 2023. A venue will be announced as soon as we get an interested province, with the date going to be decided in our NEC meeting scheduled to take place this forthcoming weekend. Provinces are once again requested to submit their bid to host the CADET and Junior Championships before 30 August 2023. In the meantime, provinces are requested to fast-track the database submission of both coaches and technical officials to the SANABO Vice Secretary-General, as requested before, for her to update it.
